Re: Naming convention for VAT

We in Austria use various terms for VAT
* USt - amount for added value tax general
** VSt - amount for added value tax - expense accounts
** MWSt - amount for added value tax - income accounts
* UID-Nr - identification number.

is there no distinction in English ?
In Spain we use the next terms:

   * *IVA* ("Impuesto Valor Añadido") - Amount for the added value tax
     general

   * *NIF* ("Número Identificación Fiscal") - Identification number for
companies. Before 2008 it was called "CIF" ("Código Identificación
     Fiscal").

(/Just as a note, for individual persons we have another code
called DNI number ("Documento Nacional Identidad" = personal
identification document number); this one doesn't is not related
to VAT/, /but is common to store it for individual clients that do
     not have NIF/)

We don't have different abreviations for incoming or outgoing VAT, we just use "IVA", though we have different names for them:

   * Expense accounts VAT -> "IVA soportado" or "IVA deducible"
   * Income accounts VAT -> "IVA devengado" or "IVA repercutido"

I hope this helps :)
