I have just seen a very nice solution how to integrate the sort option in 
column headers

http://www.ariva.de/search/search.m?page=0&searchname=petrol&sort=symbol&sort_d=asc

As already often remarked very often 
* char fields should be sorted ascending
* date fields - descending (newest on top)
* numeric fields - it depends.

the current way  to get date fields sorted is 
click 1 - ascending 
then click 2 descending 

please not the color of the flash showing which column is sorted 

implementing this would speed up working a lot.

and I agree with Borja, we need multi column sort options
