[Bug 415157] Re: Sound doesn't work under ALSA without aoss
rechecked that this works with pulseaudio in lucid. I'll close this
report after the lucid release. pulseaudio is now used by default on the
desktop

Sound doesn't work under ALSA without aoss
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/415157
You received this bug notification because you are a member of OpenJDK,
which is subscribed to openjdk-6 in ubuntu.
Status in “openjdk-6” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete
Bug description:
When I try to use a Java program that uses sound (I tried with "processing" from processing.org), Java complains that the sound device cannot be opened:
==== JavaSound Minim Error ====
==== Couldn't open the line: Audio Device Unavailable
This error seems to be a generic Java error, not specific to "processing".
I am using ALSA for sound (i.e. I don't have PulseAudio running), and everything else (mpd, Sonata, Flash, sox, mplayer, vlc, xine &c.) seems to work fine. If I run processing with "aoss processing" then it works fine, but as far as I can see it should work either with ALSA or with PulseAudio.
I have the same problem if I use sun-java6 rather than openjdk.
