[Bug 415157] [NEW] Sound doesn't work under ALSA without aoss
Public bug reported:
When I try to use a Java program that uses sound (I tried with
"processing" from processing.org), Java complains that the sound device
cannot be opened:
==== JavaSound Minim Error ====
==== Couldn't open the line: Audio Device Unavailable
This error seems to be a generic Java error, not specific to
"processing".
I am using ALSA for sound (i.e. I don't have PulseAudio running), and
everything else (mpd, Sonata, Flash, sox, mplayer, vlc, xine &c.) seems
to work fine. If I run processing with "aoss processing" then it works
fine, but as far as I can see it should work either with ALSA or with
PulseAudio.
I have the same problem if I use sun-java6 rather than openjdk.
ProblemType: Bug
Architecture: i386
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.04
Package: openjdk-6-jre 6b14-1.4.1-0ubuntu11
ProcEnviron:
PATH=(custom, user)
LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
SHELL=/bin/bash
SourcePackage: openjdk-6
Uname: Linux 2.6.28-14-generic i686
** Affects: openjdk-6 (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
