[Bug 924096] [NEW] update-manager wants to install openjdk-6-jre:i386
Public bug reported:
I have a 64 bit system upgraded from oneiric. Every time I run update
manager it says that two "new installs" are available:
openjdk-6-jre-headless:i386
openjdk-6-jre:i386
If I allow it to attempt installing these packages, dpkg crashes with:
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/openjdk-6-jre-headless_6b24~pre4-1ubuntu1_i386.deb (--unpack):
conffile './etc/java-6-openjdk/security/java.policy' is not in sync with other instances of the same package
dpkg-deb: error: subprocess paste was killed by signal (Broken pipe)
(full log also attached attached)
After this has happened apt is in a broken state. sudo apt-get -f
install will not fix it, as it just tries again and fails to install the
openjdk-6-jre:i386 package. It is necessary to go to a terminal and run
"apt-get -f purge icedtea-6-jre-cacao:i386 icedtea-6-jre-jamvm:i386"
before any further package tasks can be performed.
If I run "apt-get dist-upgrade" then it tells me there are no updates.
Only update-manager is trying to install those i386 packages.
I have tried purging everything java related from the system, 32 bit or
64 bit, but those two "updates" just won't go away.
