Some initial comments:

 - Put the "backends" folder at the same level as the "lib" folder
 - I'd put the "synchronizer" module on the same level as backends since it contains base classes, and only put the actual backends in backends
 - Get rid of the "lib" folder if you can
 - Also, I think this should be in core
