Re: Manager can't find Workstation

Hi Jussi,

Please continue the conversation on the mailing list as it can be useful for other users and you may also have answer from them.

The installation process is quite independent from the presence or not of management interfaces. For each case, you need to install the opensand meta-package on each host and the opensand-manager meta-package where you need a manager, usually this is the satellite. The management interfaces can only influence the network on which management data will be transmitted (data from daemons to manager). If there is no such interfaces, these data will transit on the emulation network and, except if you need to transmit high traffic rates, this is totally acceptable.

To use the management interface you need to choose the correct interface for service publishing when configuring the daemons and the collector (the collector is not installed with the meta-package, you need to install it manually, the package name is opensand-collector. You can install it on the host you want but usually we install it on the same host that the manager. You need the collector if you want to use statistics). You can reconfigure the packages using "dpkg-reconfigure opensand-daemon" and "dpkg-reconfigure opensand-collector" as root.

When choosing the the interface for service publishing, the manager, daemons and collector will detect each other on this specific network and transmit management data on it.

Hi,
Can you shortly explain how do you install from packages correctly emulation and management to different networks expected that internal network is already working between virtual machines like my case (gw sat, terminal1, client 1 ). Is right way first run apt-get install opensand for every (gw,st,sat) ones with advanced settings and after that try run apt-get install opensand-manager for sat one to different network?

    Hi Jussi,

        Hi,
I added worksation but I can't see it on manager start window.
Ping works for any (ST GW, and google.com <http://google.com>
        <http://google.com>) destinations anyway.

In order to be discovered by the manager, the hosts need to
    contact it.
However, as workstations are behind terminals, they are generally
not on the same network as the manager ans thus, cannot be discovered.

There are a solution for that but first of all, do you really need
    a daemon on workstation ?
This is only useful when you need automatic and dynamic routes or
if you wish to use some tools.
Otherwise, you can use a basic computer and configure your
interface with DHCP if server is enabled on the terminal. If you
prefer you can also configure the workstation interface and route
manually: you can either add a default destination or add a route
for the emulation network via the satellite terminal.
If you need details, please send me your network configuration.

I you really need a daemon on workstation you can add a new
Ethernet interface on your computer and plug it on the manager
    network.
In our platforms, we use 2 networks, one for emulation and the
other for management, so we can discover worsktations through the
management network. This is also useful to avoid sending
    statistics on the emulation network.
