Public bug reported:

I was in mid-editing when I experienced a crash. When I loaded the
project file again, the project seemed OK, but I could not see the
transitions in the UI (although they definitely played in the preview),
and all the imported video files were gone from the project. When I
imported them back, saved the project, and restarted, I now get a UI
freeze every time I try to load the osp file.
