[Bug 850577] [NEW] Make better use of screen space

Public bug reported:

Hans Petter Birkeland on 2009-11-16:
I feel there is a little too much wasted space in the UI. The main thing should be to have preview image, the timeline and the resources list as big as possible and the space between them as small as possible. First of all the video controls beneath the preview window could be a lot smaller. Then I think too much space is used on the toolbars. Maybe they could be merged into one? Personally I find the upper toolbar not to be necessary. I use Final Cut Pro at work, and there is just a tiny vertical toolbar to the right of the time line, resembling your timeline toolbar.

The only thing I can agree on is the tab saying 'Timeline - Sequence 1' going away if there is only one timeline or sequence.

The reason there are two toolbars is because the context they operate is
in different, and they are relevant to their contexts. It's good.

moimael : I think he is right for the media player controls, they should
be a lot smaller.

fc: I disagree, the button sizes (at least to me), make the program look
less intimidating to new users and makes it look more friendly.

Hans Petter: Well, I think that for both new and experienced users it is
a good thing to have the preview as big as possible. And as long as one
can see the buttons easily they don't need to be very big.

Fabien26: No he is wright, the buttons are too huge ... Look at other
users friendly video editor like the Wind@w$ Movie maker or Kdenlive.
And for the toolbars, He is wright too, the first toolbar is really not
necessary, it can be a small Expend buttons like in the recent Microsoft
Office. But I think the real deal is, is it possible with GTK to do this
I think yes, but how ?

AndyF: The player buttons are all themeable, one or two of the built in
themes use smaller buttons.
