Well I certainly feel like a fool. Maybe it's that I'm using an old
version (Debian Testing here) but I couldn't find any reference to that
hotkey in the included documentation.

  Feature Request: Select tools with hotkeys

Status in OpenShot Video Editor:

Bug description:
  From editing audio I know that the speed at which I can work increases
  if I can switch between the various tools with the keyboard while
  continuing to edit with the mouse rather than having to constantly
  switch from the timeline to the toolbar with the mouse. I'd love to
  have this functionality in Openshot, it'd be a great benefit to my
  workflow.
