I've been able to reproduce this every time on my Karmic 32 bit install.
This install has the SDL problem with the squished up video, so it's
generally unusable, but I can at least add other effects without getting
this segmentation fault.

@Papy & @Daniel Rodrigues, are you running 32 or 64 bit?

Just a simple test :

import a jpeg picture and place it on a track
add a water effect and play.

the result is a segfault
