[Bug 507354] Re: Freezing all the time

You could try running Openshot from the terminal (just type openshot),
and see if there are any errors in the output.

You should also try playing the video files with the ffplay & melt
players (type: ffplay filename and melt filename at the terminal) to see
if you have the same problems - if they don't play the files reliably
then Openshot will inherit whatever problems they are having.

You could also try uninstalling from the .deb and installing from the
PPA.

One other thing, if your netbook is a 1.6 Atom, you might want to
monitor the CPU - MLT (the video framework Openshot is based on) can be
quite CPU intensive, using the melt player will show if the MLT CPU
consumption is excessive.

Status in OpenShot Video Editor: New

Bug description:
Previewing files from the media bin? 2 out of the 5 times it will freeze.
Previewing clips from the timeline? Half of the times it will freeze.
Try editing a bit more and preview again? Freeze for sure -- eventually.
I had it even freezing while trying to add a new file to the project (right in the file explorer window), or even when it was asking me if I wanted to save the project.

Three times out of these 30-40 freezes I had so far, it also froze X11 and had to kill the whole thing.

Latest ubuntu 9.10, with openshot 1.0, with provided deb and its dependencies deb file. Ran on an HP netbook with an intel gfx card and 1 GB of RAM. No other app or video editor freezes up in that manner on that PC.
