Strange. I've just reading a mail which was saying that somebody have
 running wihtout problems kino, Openshot,kdenlive and same cinelerra on a
eeepc 901 in a usb key in an Ubuntu Netbook Remix since 5h30!!!!
It's the webmaster of the french multimedia webside
Lprod<http://lprod.org/>a multimedia expert.

like Andy was saying, what give you this commands, please :
ffplay myfile
melt myfile
Have you purge before to re-install Openshot ? Have you check all the
dependencies like here :

Do you use the ffmpeg Medibuntu repositorie ?
What  give the command following :
melt -version
what are the driver graphic card ? official, generic ?
With some the same drivers on a different system (karmic/jaunty) i have not
the same results (perfect with karmic, horrible with jaunty) ?
Have you tried the UNR on ? she is optimized on.
