Thanks for the bug report.  This has already been reported, but it looks
like we've never solved it.  However, I believe it only happens with
certain themes.  If you can find any info on what causes it, please post
your feedback on the other bug report (which should be linked to this
one now).  Thanks!

For example, after doing Edit>Preferences>Apply, button icons disappear. They appear when the mouse hovers over them.
