openshot crashes when playing a video with an effect applied

Status in OpenShot Video Editor: New

Bug description:
openshot 1.1.3 crashes when trying to playback video clip with any effect.

os: ubuntu 10.04

procedure to reproduce crash:

open openshot
import video clip
drag video clip to timeline
choose the effects tab (or right-click on video track in timeline.  choose properties. choose effects tab)
drag effect to video on timeline.
click play button

messages log records:
openshot[2423]: segfault at 4 ip 00d57167 sp bf911490 error 4 in libmlt.so.0.5.4[d4c000+1d000]

Please note that the video clips that imported in this case are avi or vob.  I can use openshot 1.1.3 for all other editing except for applying effects.  If you require any other information please let me know.
