i did some more searching and found this thread that discussed a missing
dependency on frei0r-plugins ( not ...pjugins)

I played the project once and it didnt crash, which is an improvement.

so I guess this bug is a missing dependency .

Playing back my movie result in program abort. The program output is:

python: pthread_mutex_lock.c:62: __pthread_mutex_lock: Assertion `mutex->__data.__owner == 0' failed.
Aborted

OS: Kubuntu 9.10
Install: PPA (2010-03-17)
OpenShot version 1.1.1

The disappearing zoom slider (1.1.0 bug) is fixed and working fine, thanks!
