[Bug 670414] Re: Missing profile for easy export to wikipedia

The two profiles should be implemented with a preference for the WebM
format because he is used more and more often in the web and we have
less problem that the ogv format. The pdf who is in the third link
explained well the configuration of a video and recognize the fact than
the WebM format is taking a formidable extension. And if a Free Software
like us can help a free actor like Wikipedia, it is just justice.

This bug report follow answer to question :
Is there a profile for easy export to wikipedia ?
https://answers.launchpad.net/openshot/+question/132202

OpenShot do not currently have an export profile to easily export to Wikipedia.
It would be interesting to have such feature in OpenShot for helping end-user to contribute to the Wikipedia open-video project.

In the following recent document:
"Video for Wikipedia: Guide to Best Practices"
http://openvideoalliance.org/2010/10/video-for-wikipedia-guide-to-best-practices/?l=en

It can be read...
"In 2010, as as part of a campaign to encourage individual video contribu- tions to the Wikimedia Commons, the Participa- tory Culture Foundation developed and released the Miro Converter, a free, automatic converter which creates Wikimedia-ready files from almost any existing asset with no prior technical knowl- edge necessary. The Wikipedia community has embraced the Converter, and any user who wants to upload open-video formats can do so, again with the push of a button."

Here are some hints to help OpenShot team implement such feature in the future, hopefully sooner than later... :)

How to publish video on Wikipedia ?
http://videoonwikipedia.org/howto.html

Proposed guidelines for video
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Videos
- limited to 100 MB (no longer than 3-5 minutes)
- dimensions of 320x240
- convert the file to the Ogg Theora (.ogv)... webM shall also be supported sometime in the future by wikipedia...
- recommend the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike License
- upload at: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Upload ?

Happy coding !
