 I just found this bug :

which addresses I think the same issue ,and fixes are marked released 
,but are probably still moving up to userspace .
 Still Nautilus should just call "soffice /path/to/document.doc" ,and 
that works from a terminal, so there may be at least some problem with a 
workaround in Nautilus.
