could you give a link to the repository you are trying to install from?
Are trying to install a package or compiling from source? If you are
trying to install a package, are you sure it is compatible with your
distribution?

The easiest way to get poppler 0.20 would probably be to wait a month or
so for the next release of Linux Mint, as Ubuntu 12.10 and thus also
Mint 14 will have the new poppler version.
