New version of Rapid Photo Downloader

Hi everyone,

Today I have released 0.4.9 beta 1 as a tarball and to the Rapid Photo Downloader testing PPA. I'm keen to have you all test it because I modified the code at the heart of the program -- that which actually copies the files. It looks like I've finally fixed a bug that appeared when Ubuntu 12.10 was released. The bug meant the program would freeze or run extremely slowly when downloading. It was partially fixed a year ago, but should be completely fixed now. A nice side effect is that the program now downloads more quickly too.

I made some other fixes that you can read about here: http://damonlynch.net/rapid/download.html#releasenotes049beta1

If you are an Ubuntu user and you haven't yet set up the testing PPA, you can do so like this:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:dlynch3/rapid-photo-downloader-testing
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Please let me know if you run into any problems. When 0.4.9 is released, it will be the fastest and most reliable version of the program so far. Unless any problems pop up between this beta and the actual release, I anticipate the only change will be for me to add some code to allow the user the option of performing MD5 sum checks to verify files were copied correctly.

Thanks,
Damon
