Mea culpa,

1) This bug was fixed in Lucid (but not in Karmic)
2) It was never an LSI MPT bug, it was in scsi_lib.c
3) I'm running an ordinary, current Lucid on an HP DL 165 G5 ("Proliant") OK now.
