Bug still present in Lucid.

this worked for me:

sudo apt-get autoremove --purge gnome-codec-install

no complains, although rhythmbox still plays wma files.
i guess if you want to play a file with a new codec now, you have to reinstall the packet first:
sudo apt-get install gnome-codec-install
