Hi Andrew,
I did as you suggested - at least I hope it worked as I did the changes via SSH/SSHFS on the other machine without being in
front of it.
The connection with SSH and SSHFS worked good without problem.
- From my mum I was told that there was no password requested when she ticked the FW administration button.
After two tests where the xubuntu machine could not find my machine (no connection) we both switched to 'manage FW'.
that time the xubuntu machine found my machine but then it crashed. I could not get it to connect when we tested some
minutes later but I will test again

BTW I remember something about ubuntu using now dash but I am not sure which release this was relating to
