Well... based on my frustrating experiences a few years ago with
trying to figure out how to do free software screencasts on Ubuntu (it
is *possible* and perhaps better now, but a big failed timesink for
me), I just used my new iMac.

Turns out that plain old free (beer) Quicktime Player will do basic
screencasts with voiceover.  No fancy features, but it worked, and I
just shrunk the screen resolution down so that the browser window
filled the screen.
