FYI: I'm planning to do another audio plugin based on PortAudio (link 
below). Only had a quick play with it so far but if I don't encounter 
any problems then it would be a cross-platform alternative to ALSA/PA, 
possibly isolating Squeak/Scratch from some of the problems when using 
these libs directly. I intend to statically link to PortAudio to avoid 
additional dependencies. I only do Linux so it would be great if there 
is a Windows developer prepared to do a port.
