Public bug reported:

Have the ability to create a shape. I imagine that this would be a
square shape initially, but with the options mentioned it could work as
anything.

Then there could be a selection tool for changing the color gradient, OR
uploading a png image to fill the 'shape space'.

Huge bonus points for including a few vector shapes, like a
circle/star/etc.. actually if people could define and browse the vectors
somehow that would be sweet.

Then transparent widgets could be plugged into this space to match the
design.

These recent recommendations are to try to find a setup that is
wallpaper agnostic .. right now if I change my wallpaper, it means going
through and resetting a bunch of colors to make sure the contrast is
right.  With squares - I could make a big box, or a small box..  and not
have to worry about what the widget designer did as much as far as
background options.
