RaiMan proposed the following answer:
0.10.2 or Sikuli X?

It is a feature: On saving a script, Sikuli IDE deletes all images, that
are not referenced in the script.

If the image is referenced in the script AND deleted on save, it is a
bug (with 0.10.2 it known to happen in some cases).
