M. Richardson confirmed that the question is solved:
I should have updated my findings earlier.  With some investigation of
others trying to get autokey utilities to work on this particular
application (ThinkTDA), I found that the developers have purposely
written code to thwart these utilities from successfully performing
simulated keyboard input.  I've never heard of such a thing but I now
see this was why I was having major problems.

I think that the Linux version of the app might not have the same
limitations so I'm trying on that platform and using Sikuli to see if it
is any better.
