RaiMan proposed the following answer:
at 1: no it is not Selenium, it is a visual approach. But some people
are running a combination of Sikuli and Selenium.

at 2: Sikuli does not know anything about GUI's - only sees pixels on
the screen

at 3: the scripting language is Python ;-) (interpreter is Jython) but
you might use it on the Java level as well

at 4: if image is visible on the screen, it is found, wherever it may be
;-)

at 6: the machine to run Sikuli scripts on must have a valid Sikuli
installation and an active, real screen (not headless!). But there are
solutions to use VNC and other remote accesses.

The docs and this forum has tons of more information and Google is your
friend.

BTW: what are your installation problems?
