... but your iMac surely is not the problem nor is it 10.7, which I
guess you are running (or still 10.6?).

Solving this kind of path settings problems on Mac is quite challenging,
especially when it is caused by some so called "helpers" like MacPorts.

I will have a look into my MacPro 1,1 (late 2006) and make some
suggestions where to look.
