  ...wondered whether it would be possible to change Simple
  Scan so that it remembers the last filename used to save (as it does
  with the save directory). I use sequentially numbered file names for
  scans, and as I have now made over a thousand, it is a bit cumbersome to
  scroll to the last saved file, select it, change the last digit, and
  save. Incidentally, reverse sorting on file names lists directories
  first, then files, so it is more cumbersome to try and pick the first
  file after the directories (if you see what I mean).
