SYMPTOM:
simple-scan crashes in menu code when pressing scan too soon after startup

WORKAROUND:
after application startup wait a few seconds before starting the scan

(08:06:36) robert_ancell: the backtrace I've seen from simple-scan shows it's happening inside the GTK menu plugin
