Making NVidia Chip work
Hi all,
i just noticed yesterday, that to make the Nvidia chipset and the little
LED
next to the stamina/speed switch work, it is enough for me to try to
_install_ WinXP.
I booted from a WinXP 2nd service pack CD i got from a friend and ran
the
installer until it blue screened, which is pretty early in the
installation
process, after like 3 minutes or so. Then i did a soft reboot pressing
the power button and the LED was
working and i got nvidia-glx-177 installed and working in ubuntu and
had the
chip working beautifully.
All this without haveing _any_ installation of WinXP on the PC or any
Sony
driver installed (the package is like 1Gb)
If i understand this behaviour correctly, it means, that you don't need
a
special driver from Sony to make the switch work, but it might be some
BIOS
or ACPI routine that is in WinXP by default.
Can other ppl please confirm this ? just boot from a winxp cd and run
the
installer until the bluescreen appears. It doesnt even get to the point
where
you have to choose the partition to install...
Cheers
Julius
