You're right, it was my fault. I had different entries in my boot menu 
for speed and stamina, and the one for stamina missed the acpi_osi 
parameter. Works great now (with one entry)!

Just downloaded it from http://www.linuxhardware.org/nvclock/. Compiles 
and works perfectly, except that it says

    Xlib:  extension "NV-CONTROL" missing on display ":0.0".

(I guess that can be ignored.)
