Of course ... you forgot to read the dmesg/log. Because the new module
was not inserted *at*all.

Loading a module with non-existing modparam does not succeed:

$ modprobe sony-laptop alt_rfkill=1
FATAL: Error inserting sony_laptop (/lib/modules/2.6.32/updates/dkms/sony-laptop.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
$ 

and afterwards *no* sony-laptop is loaded.

That also means that all rfkill and acpi and everything is gone ;-)

In the sense that the module is not loaded it breaks functionality, yes.
