From what I understand (I may be wrong) the Intel card is hooked up to 
the VGA port, and NVidia card is hooked up to the HDMI port, and the 
internal LCD can be switched between the two (and this switch is what is 
causing problems for selecting mode?). I have 2 monitors on my desk - 
would it be possible to drive all 3 - Internal LCD from either Intel or 
NVidia card, one external monitor from the VGA, another from the HDMI?

One of my external monitors is 1280x1024, the other is 1920x1200.

Does anyone know what setup with X would be required?
