Hi Benoit,

you can avoid the kernel switches on every boot by always booting the
old kernel. I managed to get the most important hardware enabled under
2.6.31-20 as described at:
http://questier.com/2010/04/26/ubuntu-10-4-lucid-lynx-on-sony-vaio-vpcz11x9e/

This will also avoid the hibernate failures (caused by not booting the
old kernel in between, or by mismatch between the old kernel and the
saved hibernate state).
(but still searching for Intel graphics support and brightness control)
