nVidia and 10.04

Can't get my VGN-Z530N into SPEED mode with Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid. Tried
installing the nVidia 195.36.15 driver with synaptic, and tried -15 and -24
with sony-VGN-Zseries-janitor. Multiple times. Rebooted repeatedly between
attempts. No joy. Whichever position the switch is in, the light on STAMINA
stays lit.

Advice? Suggestions?
