I am not using Jaunty, but I am using 2.6.32-22-generic as well on Lucid
with 0.9np5 (sony vaio Z790).

The only configuration I use (always stamina mode) is:

$ cat /etc/modprobe.d/sony-laptop.conf 
options sony-laptop speed_stamina=0
