Still Can't Open Display!

 

OK. In order, I

   1. Reinstalled current nVidia drivers from synaptic
   2. Created a custom Xorg config with nvidia-xconfig
   3. Ran the janitor script
   4. Set GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="acpi_osi=\\\"!Windows 2006\\\""
   5. Ran update-grub
   6. Rebooted
   7. Rebooted

And once again, the system refused to start X. At least the errors are
different :(

giving up.

xinit:  No such process (errno 3):  Server error.

New Xorg log attached.

Changed back to the old xorg.conf file. Changed /etc/default/grub back to
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”i915.modeset=1″.

X starts normally.

So what now?
