Message #01374
NVIDIA and VPCZ11C5E
Hello everyone,
I got some problems installing Ubuntu 10.04 on this Sony VPCZ11C5E.
dmidecode -s system-product-name
VPCZ11C5E
dmidecode -s bios-version
R2074C3
Kernel is current 2.6.35-020635rc1-generic from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.35-rc1-lucid/
Kernel boot parameters are: i8042.nopnp acpi_osi="!Windows 2006" nomodeset
Stamina/Speed switch is on "Speed".
Basic installation worked out fine, but I can't get the NVIDIA driver
running, which results in xorg working with the vesa driver at 1024x768.
I'm using the latest NVIDA driver from the NVIDIA website (256.35).
The module builds without problems and easily loads into the running kernel.
When trying to start X with the nvidia driver I find the following output in
Xorg.log
(EE) Jul 06 22:24:01 NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA
graphics device PCI:1:0:0.
(EE) Jul 06 22:24:01 NVIDIA(0): Please check your system's kernel
log for additional error
(EE) Jul 06 22:24:01 NVIDIA(0): messages and refer to Chapter 8:
Common Problems in the
(EE) Jul 06 22:24:01 NVIDIA(0): README for additional information.
While in the kernel log there is:
NVRM: failed to copy vbios to system memory.
NVRM: RmInitAdapter failed! (0x30:0xffffffff:819)
NVRM: rm_init_adapter(0) failed
I also tried to use the sony-laptop module (0.9np7) with different
speed_stamina module options .. None work
Any other ideas how to get the NVIDIA driver running? 1024x768 and no
option to enable external video output via VGA or HDMI is not acceptable.
I would appreciate any input from your side.
Greets,
Aleks
