ICRC disk errors and Sony repair service
Hi everyone,
My vaio Z model 1390 has a disk hardware problems and I wonder if anyone
with a similar configuration could confirm if they have the same problem
or not (my config is : cpu i5-580, ram 6gig, disk 2x128GB SSD, screen
1920x1080).
The laptop has been in repair at Sony Canada for the last 5 months (!).
They first changed the disks, and got no change. Then they changed 4Gig
of ram, and got no change.
Now, they are starting to blame Linux because they can't reproduce the
error with their standard test software.
The problem is an intermittent disk write error which creates "SMART"
disk errors, always of the ICRC type and always on both disks at the
same time. It occurs at random under a normal usage pattern.
Here is a typical output of 'smartctl -a /dev/sda':
-------------------------
Error 204 occurred at disk power-on lifetime: 156 hours (6 days + 12 hours)
When the command that caused the error occurred, the device was active
or idle.
After command completion occurred, registers were:
ER ST SC SN CL CH DH
-- -- -- -- -- -- --
84 51 68 00 90 1d eb Error: ICRC, ABRT 104 sectors at LBA =
0x0b1d9000 = 186486784
--------------------------
Can anyone with the same (or very similar) configuration as mine can
confirm whether that they have (or not) the same problem? I would be
extremely grateful.
Thanks,
Sincerely,
Sébastien
