It's finally solved, I'm writing this just in case someone else searches the list with the same problem.

I contacted sony about this problem, and they sent me a replacement power brick, a bit bulkier and a lot more powerful.

The brick shipped with my VPCZ11X9/e gave 40W.
The one I've just received is 91W, the only explanation I can come up with is that indeed, this laptop can suck more power than the supplied adapter can provide. Sony is aware of the issue and will send a more powerful charger on complaint, no questions asked.

Also, I didn't have to send or give back my original adaptor, so if any of you have the small one, a phone complaint might just give you a free additional power brick ;-)
