Suspend does not work

I have a Vaio VGN-Z890, running Ubuntu 12.10. Suspend does not work -doing a suspend from the desktop results in the password screen tor resume.


pm-suspend does nothing,

echo mem > /sys/power/state

does work!

What do I need to do to get suspend to work from the desktop?
