Jeg er også den "heldige" ejer af en Cpq Deskpro XL 566 m. QV2000.  Den velnok
mest problemfyldte maskine i relation til Linux.

Her er et lille uddrag af den Compaq-XL HOWTO, som du kan finde på
http://www-c724.uibk.ac.at/XL/XL-HOWTO.html  . Jeg kan ligeså godt advare dig -
dit onboard PCI ethernet-kort får du kun til at virke ved at boot'e fra en
diskette -- såvidt jeg ved....

"Some of the Compaq Deskpro XL were sold with the Compaq QVision 1280. This
card contains a Compaq Orion graphic chip. The QVision 2000 graphics card sold
with some of the older XLs is based on a Matrox Atlas chip with a Cirrus Logic
PX2085 Ramdac (this board is similar to the Matrox Ultima series). Nowadays the
XLs come with Matrox Millenium graphic cards. None of the above mentioned
graphic cards is supported by XFree86 and it is very likely that there will
never be any support for them in future.

Anyhow, there is a very stable and fast commercial X-Server from Xinside
supporting all these cards. It is written by Thomas Roell. With his X-Server
you get more than 300000 xStones with the QVision 2000 and more than 700000
xStones with the Matrox Millenium (1024x768x8, XL566) gained according to the
XFree86-benchmarks survey (faster CPUs should give higher results).

There is another commercial X-Server from Metro Link that supports only the
QVision 2000. Under the same conditions as for the X-Inside server I got about
180000 xStones for the MetroX-Server-2.3.4 in combination with the QVision 2000.

There have been several problem reports for a card called QVision 2000+. The
problems seem to be caused by Compaq specific PCI handling.

Hvordan får jeg min Compaq Deskpro XL 560 m. Q-Vision 2000 skærmkort til at
køre X?
Jeg har lige installeret Linux (Red Hat 5.2) uden de store problemer. Dog
kan jeg ikke få X til at vise andet end en opløsning på ca. 300 x 200. Der
er 4 Mb RAM på skærmkortet, og min skærm er en 21 " Hitachi (CM21111MET)
der kan hvadsomhelst - f.eks. 1600 x 1200 / 75 Hz. Jeg har prøvet alle
Matrox driverne i XF86Setup uden held. D.v.s. når den forsøger at starte X
serveren op, går det til syneladende godt, den kommer med en grå skærm,
hvoraf jeg kan se ca. 1/4. På denne står der blandt andet Congratulations!
- Jeg kan desværre ikke se hvorfor! Når jeg herefter starter X op, går det
også godt, men opløsningen er som sagt ca. 300 x 200.
Håber I har et godt svar - en driver f.eks...

Oh at kunne smide MS Windows ad H...... til! Hvilket lønligt håb.
