Re: Cyber cafe
Dear all,
Alcasar looks like an interesting solution and indeed, I wanted to add the
captive protal in the list of features. I understood that Alcasar does not
offer the billing based in the consumption. This is however something that
could be easily added I believe.
Another idea that came to my mind is that the cyber café (or the school)
could sell/offer a usb key to each client/student with 2 partitions:
1 partition with a live (l/x)ubuntu + portable LibreOffice
<http://portableapps.com/apps/office/libreoffice_portable/> +
LibreOffice.msi
2 partition with the home folder of the client/student to be mounted by the
live session or by the cyber café/school computer (+ maybe backup on the
server for the students: local owncloud?).
This way:
- The user can get his own session on any computer (without the need of
an LDAP).
- Only one standard user has to be created on each machine (in addition
to the admin one), without even the need for a password.
- The user has access to his file on any other computer and can edit
them with the portable LibreOffice (we could had other portable application
if needed) and he can decide to install LibreOffice or even Ubuntu on
another computer (maybe with a training at the school first if the teacher
want to avoid problem with the parents...).
