Hackfest Conclusion

Hi!

I just arrived back home from monkeyspace.org and wanted to give you a
short conclusion about the Tomdroid related topics at the conference.

First of all, it was very nice to meet Jared (the main developer of
tomboy) and all the others in person and we had a great time.

They were all very excited about the new features and abilities Tomdroid
has gained lately. I told them all the credit goes to Noah :-)
Further, we found some bugs and discussed the code. There are several
improvements necessary, which I formulated in bug-reports. I will work
on these bugs during the next weeks. Maybe you can also grab one if
there is some time.

_Sync Server:_
I also pointed out that there will be a huge need for a proper sync
server, as soon as we push the two-way-sync to the market. Unfortunately
Snowy is not maintained at the moment and nobody has access to the
Tomboy online server hosted by gnome.

However, we found a guy from NY who is willing to maintain Snowy and we
already asked to gain access to the server. Additionally, Timo Doerr (a
Banshee Summer of Code Student) will try to develop a ServiceStack
solution using the Tomboy library. This server will then be easy to
maintain and should work fast and reliable. David from Monkeysquare
offered, that they could probably arrange a server therefore. However
this will cost something and it was discussed that Tomdroid could offer
a donation version/button to pay for some of this expenses. But this all
is future-talk, so there is no need to act immediately!

As soon as the Tomboy library is finished by Jared, he will do the
initial release for Macboy and will start to work on an iOS port.
There is no Andorid port planned in the near future, as Tomdroid is
working and looking quite good :-)

They offered us a free license of Xamarin's "Mono for Android" in case
we/I want to use the Tomboy library in the future. A port would be easy,
as we can use the same layout, xmls,.. and attach it to the library.
However, I told them that this will not happen soon, as I don't have any
time and the library is not finished yet (and I already love Tomdroid as
it is)

In conclusion, it was a productive week and it was great meeting the
.net guys behind the various projects. Unfortunately you were not there,
plaxx and Noah :-(
Maybe another time?!

Any more questions?
I hope we can fix the remaining bugs soon to be able to push a new
stable release out there ;-)

Greetings from Vienna,
Stefan
