There are a lot of underlying differences, and some issues when installing things from Ubuntu in Puppy. I have tried very hard to install a full suite of things from Ubuntu into Puppy, but have not been able to do so reliably in the past. Barry is also no longer developing Puppy, so the only remaining editions will be community versions. Ubuntu has a much more reliable (at least currently) stable release model. It will also benefit other Ubuntu users if we can just 'sudo apt-get install torios-desktop jwm jwm-settings-manager' from a PPA. Then users can simply try out the DE on top of their current DE. Besides all that Puppy is SLOW on really old hardware... it actually does not boot unless I tell it not to load into RAM on my old ME era machine. It gets stuck trying to load things into RAM. Tori boot very fast (for an old computer) and has a live environment, as well as a very quick install. I think ToriOS can be a good bridge from Puppy to Ubuntu for people. This way you can install things normally and easily from a large variety of sources. -- Regards -Israel ToriOS Team
