[Bug 1366209] Re: Returned to the greeter screen when logging in.
I meant that you would copy the output from those commands, and post it
here.
Since you apparently are logged in as root, you need a slightly
different command for .xsession-errors. If your username is abby, it
would be:
cat /home/abby/.xsession-errors
and probably also
cat /home/abby/.xsession-errors.old
Please note that you need to do this instantly after a failed attempt to
log in as your user.

If I log in as Guest or root, I can get into the account. However, if
I use my normal user account, I just get returned to the login screen.
If I use gdm as my desktop manager, I can get to my user account.
