Title:
Mini display port not working
Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
I am trying to use the mini display port to connect to an external
monitor using the mini display port. I have confirmed this works using
another laptop. When plugging this into my Ubuntu machine (Dell XPS17)
the monitor is not detected.
There is no screen flash or anything in the Xorg log or dmseg that
suggests the port has been plugged in.
I have tried adding the monitor using the following:
xrandr --addmode DP1 "800x600"
xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 800x600 --right-of LVDS1
Which results in the laptop screen flashing but not the external
monitor and the following is printed to the terminal:
xrandr: Configure crtc 1 failed
xrandr -q gives the following:
xrandr -q
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1600 x 900, maximum 8192 x 8192
LVDS1 connected 1600x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 382mm x 214mm
1600x900 60.3*+
1440x900 59.9
1360x768 59.8 60.0
1152x864 60.0
1024x768 60.0
800x600 60.3 56.2
640x480 59.9
VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
800x600 60.3
I have also tried updating to the latest intel driver by using:
intel-linux-graphics-installer
This succeeded however has not solved my issue.
I also have bumblebee installed however I understand that on this
machine the mini display port runs from the intel chip so this should
not be impacting this issue. I include this information incase it
might.
I am more that happy to run any diagnostics required to help resolve
this issue.
Many thanks in advance for your help!
